Less Talk, More Action

Your scouts are squirmy little fellas. After sitting at school all day, the last thing they want to do is sit and be lectured, so make sure your den meetings contain at least a small amount of physical activity. Even if you just have all the boys stand up and run in place, that’s better than nothing.

There are times where running and jumping are not appropriate, and it’s your job to keep the scouts in line, but whenever the opportunity arises, those little guys would be happy to get up and move! I usually try to include an action-oriented activity — maybe a game of hot potato or Spud — whenever the restless bugs start to wiggle.

Ending the meeting with a high-energy round of tag or soccer is always a good idea. When you send the scouts home tired and exhausted with big smiles on their faces, you had a successful den meeting.
